Supreme Court of Sierra Leone

Supreme and Highest Courts of Last Resort

The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone is the apex court named in the Constitution of Sierra Leone, and the Chief Justice presides at its sittings; in the Chief Justice's absence the most senior of the Justices of the Supreme Court sitting at the time presides. The Justices of Appeal are entitled to sit as Justices of the Supreme Court whenever the Chief Justice asks them to, and the Chief Justice may request other qualified persons to sit for a period he specifies. Neither the Chief Justice nor any Justice of the Supreme Court may take part in the hearing of an appeal from his own judgement. A person aggrieved by a decision of the Political Parties Regulation Commission may appeal to the Supreme Court, whose decision is final, and the President may refer to it a petition on which he must give a final decision for a judicial opinion.
