High Court of Bhutan

The High Court of Bhutan derives its authority from the 2008 Constitution of Bhutan and consists of the Chief Justice and eight Drangpons. The Chief Justice and Drangpons are appointed from among juniors, peers, and eminent jurists by the Druk Gyalpo, the King of Bhutan. Judges of the High Court serve ten year terms or until reaching age sixty, a retirement age unique among Bhutan's Civil Service and Constitutional Offices, whose other officeholders retire at sixty five. During their tenure, High Court judges may be censured or suspended by the Druk Gyalpo on the recommendation of the National Judicial Commission for proven misbehavior that does not rise to the level of impeachment.
