Federal Court of Cassation of Iraq

National Supreme Courts (Last Resort)

The Federal Court of Cassation is one of the bodies in which the 2005 Constitution of Iraq vests the federal judicial power, beside the Higher Juridical Council and the Federal Supreme Court. Its president and members are approved by the Council of Representatives on nomination by the Higher Juridical Council. The Supreme Judicial Council describes the Court of Cassation as the pinnacle of the judicial system in Iraq, established in 1925 and marking its centenary. Faiq Zaidan became a member of it in 2012, deputy president in 2014 and president in 2016, and since 2017 its president also presides the Supreme Judicial Council.
