The Constitutional Court of Korea is South Korea's specialized court for constitutional adjudication, with jurisdiction over constitutional complaints, statute review referred by ordinary courts, impeachment trials and the dissolution of political parties. On June 28, 2018, ruling on a consolidated group of petitions led by case number 2011Hun-Ba379, the court found that the Military Service Act's failure to provide any alternative to armed service violated conscientious objectors' freedom of conscience under Article 19 of the Constitution, while separately upholding as constitutional the Act's criminal punishment clause for draft refusal.
