White and Taft Courts

The White and Taft Courts gather the justices who served under Chief Justices Edward Douglass White and William Howard Taft from 1910 to 1930, a period that saw the Court apply the rule of reason to antitrust law, resist much of the era's labor and social-welfare legislation under a freedom-of-contract doctrine, and, under Taft's own leadership as a former President, secure the Judiciary Act of 1925 and the Supreme Court's own building.
