United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York is the federal bankruptcy court within the Southern District of New York, hearing bankruptcy cases arising in Manhattan and the surrounding district. Its jurisdiction over the many corporate headquarters and major financial institutions based in Manhattan has made it a major venue for large corporate bankruptcies, including the reorganizations of General Motors, Enron and WorldCom. The court sits primarily at the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House in Manhattan, with additional courthouses in White Plains and Poughkeepsie, New York.
