Mississippi Chancery Courts

Mississippi's chancery courts are courts of equity with jurisdiction over family law, sanity hearings, wills and constitutional questions, and in counties without a County Court they also hear juvenile cases. Trials are normally held without a jury, though a jury may be requested. The system is divided into 20 chancery districts across the state, and its judges are elected every four years in nonpartisan elections; a candidate must have practiced law for at least five years, be at least 26 years old, have lived in Mississippi for at least five years, and reside within the district served.
