Sessions Court

A Sessions Court, presided over by a Court of Sessions Judge, is the highest criminal court in a district in several Commonwealth nations and the court of first instance for trying the most serious offences, meaning those carrying a punishment of more than seven years' imprisonment, life imprisonment or death. It is the primary venue for prosecuting major crimes within its jurisdiction, with convicted defendants able to appeal to a higher court afterward.
