Commercial Tribunal (Belgium)

Belgium's business court, called the Ondernemingsrechtbank in Dutch, the Tribunal de l'entreprise in French and the Unternehmensgericht in German, hears commercial disputes that exceed the authority of the justice of the peace and appeals against a justice of the peace's commercial rulings. It exists as a separate court rather than a division of the Court of First Instance because, under Belgian law, commercial law is not treated as a branch of civil law; every Belgian judicial district maintains its own such court. The court took its current name on November 1, 2018, having previously been called the Commercial Court, the Rechtbank van koophandel in Dutch, the Tribunal de commerce in French and the Handelsgericht in German.
