Administrative court

An administrative court is a specialized judicial body that hears disputes over the exercise of public power, working to ensure that official acts are consistent with the law, and is usually treated as separate from the ordinary courts because administrative acts become binding on the people they affect without those people's consent. Such courts commonly handle matters including taxation, environmental permits, building inspections, immigration decisions, child custody, and involuntary commitment, and their structure varies widely by country: many nations run a separate administrative court system alongside their ordinary courts, while the United States has no dedicated administrative court within its judicial branch, instead relying on administrative law judges who sit inside the executive branch agencies themselves.
