The United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, cited as Vet. App. and often called the Veterans Court, is a federal court of record established under Article I of the Constitution. It has exclusive national jurisdiction to provide independent federal judicial oversight and review of final decisions of the Board of Veterans Appeals. The court is located in Washington, D.C. but may sit anywhere in the United States, and it is not part of the Department of Veterans Affairs but an independent federal court. Congress created it on November 18, 1988, through the Veterans Judicial Review Act of 1988, as the United States Court of Veterans Appeals; its name was changed to the current one on March 1, 1999.
