In a three-level system they sit between the trial courts and the court of last resort, and their decisions can usually be taken further to the highest court. This tier gathers courts of appeal, circuit courts of appeal, district courts of appeal and similar second-instance courts, whichever subcategory of the atlas they are shelved in.FactsAll Appellate CourtsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsComparisonDefining CharacteristicWell-attestedAn appellate court, commonly called a court of appeal(s), appeal court, court of second instance or second instance court, is any court of law that is empowered to hear a case upon appeal from a trial court or other lower tribunal. 1All Appellate CourtsFilter Results69 entriesLegal SystemAllAustralian Law (2)Common Law (1)English Law (1)French Legal System (1)Indian Legal System (25)Japanese Law (1)Law of Albania (1)Law of Bangladesh (1)Law of Belgium (1)Law of Canada (1)Law of Kenya (1)Law of Pakistan (4)Law of Spain (1)Law of Sweden (1)Law of the Netherlands (1)Law of the Philippines (1)Law of the United States (18)Louisiana Law (1)New Zealand Law (1)Scots Law (1)South African Law (1)Country Or JurisdictionAllAlbania (1)Andhra Pradesh (1)Assam (1)Australia (1)Australia (1)Balochistan (1)Bangladesh (1)Belgium (1)Chhattisgarh (1)France (1)Gambia (1)Ghana (1)India (20)Japan (1)Jharkhand (1)Karnataka (1)Kenya (2)Malawi (1)Netherlands (1)New Jersey (1)New Zealand (1)Nigeria (1)Ontario (1)Pakistan (3)Philippines (1)Scotland (1)Sierra Leone (1)South Africa (1)Spain (1)Sweden (1)Uganda (1)United Kingdom (1)United States (19)Court TierAllAppellate Courts (69)Jurisdiction ScopeAllFederal (11)International / Supranational (2)Local (1)National (10)State / Provincial (42)Founded EraAll1371 (1)1532 (1)1582 (1)1614 (1)1792 (1)1807 (1)1841 (1)1852 (1)1862 (3)1866 (1)1867 (2)1875 (1)1882 (1)1884 (1)1891 (2)1893 (1)1895 (1)1902 (1)1904 (1)1906 (1)1916 (1)1919 (1)1928 (1)1929 (1)1936 (2)1937 (1)1947 (1)1948 (2)1949 (1)1951 (1)1954 (1)1956 (1)1957 (1)1960 (1)1964 (1)1966 (2)1968 (1)1971 (1)1972 (1)1975 (1)1976 (2)1981 (1)1982 (1)1988 (1)2000 (3)2007 (1)2010 (1)2013 (2)2019 (1)Seat CityAllAgartala (1)Ahmedabad (1)Amaravati (1)Atlanta (1)Auckland (1)Bengaluru (1)Chandigarh (1)Chennai (1)Chicago (1)Christchurch (1)Cuttack (1)Delhi (2)Denver (1)Dhaka (1)Edinburgh (1)Frankfort (1)Gangtok (1)Harrisburg (1)Hyderabad (1)Islamabad (1)Jabalpur (1)Jammu (1)Jodhpur (1)Karachi (1)Kochi (1)Kolkata (1)Lahore (1)London (1)Los Angeles (1)Manila (1)Melbourne (1)Mumbai (1)New York City (1)Paris (1)Patna (1)Phoenix (1)Prayagraj (1)Quetta (1)Ranchi (1)Sacramento (1)San Francisco (2)Shillong (1)Shimla (1)Srinagar (1)Stockholm (1)Tallahassee (1)Tokyo (1)Toronto (1)Warren (1)Washington, D.C.
