The Statutes of Kilkenny were a series of thirty-five acts enacted by the Parliament of Ireland at Kilkenny in 1366, introduced under Lionel of Antwerp, Duke of Clarence, who was serving as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, with the aim of halting the decline of the Hiberno-Norman Lordship of Ireland. The statutes generally prohibited the English and Anglo-Normans living in Ireland from cohabiting, intermarrying or otherwise mixing with the native Irish. They remained on the books for centuries and were not repealed until 16 May 1983, by the Statute Law Revision Act.
