Council of State (Italy)

The Council of State is a legal-administrative consultative body that ensures the legality of public administration in Italy, deriving its authority from Articles 100, 103 and 111 of the Italian Constitution. It has jurisdiction over the actions of administrative authorities, except in matters lacking discretionary power, which fall to the civil courts instead, and its 111 members, a president, 18 section presidents and 92 councillors, are organized into consultative and judicial divisions handling regulatory review, legislative consultation and administrative appeals.
