Crown Tribunal

The Crown Tribunal, known in Polish as the Trybunal Glowny Koronny, was the highest appellate court in the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland for most cases. It was created in 1578 by King Stefan Batory to relieve the pressure of appeals on the royal court, and it was staffed by elected nobles and ecclesiastical representatives who heard cases and issued rulings during sessions lasting about six months at a time, held mainly at Piotrkow Trybunalski and Lublin. The tribunal was reformed by the Great Sejm between 1788 and 1792 and was abolished following the Partitions of Poland.
