Constitution of Honduras

The Political Constitution of the Republic of Honduras was approved on 11 January 1982 and published on 20 January 1982, becoming the country's twelfth constitution since its 1838 independence, following a constituent assembly's work as the country returned to civilian rule after military government. It contains entrenched clauses, articles 373 and 374, barring amendment of the provisions on the form of government, national territory and presidential term limits, and article 3 protects citizens' right to resist a government that seizes power by force. A 1998-1999 amendment made the president commander-in-chief of the armed forces, ending 42 years of military autonomy from civilian control.
