The law of Tuvalu comprises legislation passed by the Parliament of Tuvalu and statutory instruments that become law, certain acts passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom during the period Tuvalu was a British protectorate or colony, the common law, and customary law, particularly regarding ownership of land. The land tenure system is largely based on kaitasi, an extended family ownership arrangement.
