The Court of Appeal of Timor-Leste is the interim highest court of the country. The Constitution makes the Supreme Court of Justice the highest court of law, but since that court has not yet been created the Court of Appeal has taken on its duties, including the constitutionality questions the President refers to the high court. Parliament appointed Judge Maria Natercia Gusmao to it as the first female judge of the highest court. Claudio Ximenes presided over it as its President.
