He was regarded as one of the greatest judges of his generation, and his legal opinions are still considered classics that contributed to the High Court's prominence during the 1950s.

How was Wilfred Fullagar regarded by the legal profession?
He was seen as an unrivalled expositor of the law.
The Australian Dictionary of Biography says that Fullagar soon developed a formidable reputation at the Bar, especially in the fields of equity and constitutional law, and that he was appointed King's Counsel in September 1933 after only eleven years in practice. A tribute it quotes calls him a sound and learned lawyer and a brilliant expositor of the law who was unrivalled. The same entry adds that he sat in a period of relative stability in doctrine and principle, and that his views on some matters were later overtaken by High Court opinion.
