Dikgang Moseneke, born in 1947 in Pretoria, is a South African jurist who joined the Pan Africanist Congress at fourteen and was imprisoned for ten years on Robben Island, where he earned university degrees and met Nelson Mandela. Admitted as an attorney in 1976 and appointed senior counsel in 1993, he worked in corporate law and chaired the telecommunications company Telkom before his judicial appointment, becoming a High Court judge in 2001 and a Justice of South Africa's Constitutional Court from 2002 to 2016, serving as Deputy Chief Justice from 2005 to 2016 and briefly as Acting Chief Justice in 2013 and 2014. Regarded as one of the strongest judges on the Constitutional Court for landmark rulings on anti-corruption, property rights and judicial independence, he was twice passed over for Chief Justice despite his seniority, and in 2024 he sat as an ad hoc judge of the International Court of Justice in the case of South Africa versus Israel.
