Benjamin Odoki

Benjamin Josses Odoki served as Chief Justice of Uganda from 2001 to 2013, his term extended by three controversial months before he stepped down in June 2013. Appointed a High Court judge in 1978 at the age of thirty-five, he had earlier worked as a state attorney and directed the Uganda Law Development Centre, and he went on to serve as Director of Public Prosecutions from 1981 to 1984 and as a Supreme Court justice from 1986, chairing the Judicial Service Commission from 1996 to 2000. After leaving Uganda's bench he served as a judge on the African Development Bank's Administrative Tribunal and on the Supreme Court of Eswatini, and since 2018 has chaired the Committee of Constitutional Experts drafting a constitution for the proposed East African Confederation.
