Kobina Arku Korsah

Kobina Arku Korsah (1894-1967) was a Ghanaian jurist and statesman who served as the thirteenth Chief Justice of the Gold Coast from 1956 and then, from 1957, as the first Chief Justice of independent Ghana, holding the post until December 1963. He presided over the 1963 trial of five men accused in the 1962 Kulungugu bomb attack on President Kwame Nkrumah, and after the court acquitted three of the defendants, Nkrumah unconstitutionally dismissed him. Educated at Fourah Bay College and the University of London, he had earlier practiced as a barrister specializing in commercial law, represented Cape Coast in the Legislative Assembly from 1927, and was among the first two Ghanaians appointed to the colonial Executive Council in 1942.
