Nordic law is the law of the five Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Formal legislative cooperation among the Nordic states began in 1872 and has produced substantial uniform legislation in contracts, commerce, family and extradition, though each country retains its own constitution as supreme domestic authority. The family is comparatively lightly codified relative to the Romanistic and Germanic civil-law families, the central fact behind scholarly disagreement over whether it forms a genuinely separate legal family.
