The law of the Dominican Republic is a civil law system in which enacted legislation is the primary source of law, organized in a hierarchy topped by the Constitution and followed by statutes, executive decrees, administrative regulations, and local ordinances. Its Civil Code and Commercial Code, both descended from the Napoleonic Code, remain the foundational texts of private law.
