Ibn Rajab (1335-1393) was a Hanbali jurist and hadith scholar born in Baghdad and based mainly in Damascus, who followed the Athari theological creed. Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani praised his mastery of the science of hadith narrators and their chains of transmission, and he was also known as a theologian, historian and preacher noted for his asceticism. His legacy rests chiefly on his hadith commentaries and his contributions to Hanbali legal theory.
