William Lloyd Prosser lived from March 15, 1898 to May 21, 1972 and was Dean of the School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley from 1948 to 1961. He authored several editions of Prosser on Torts, universally recognized as the leading work on tort law for a generation and still in use today as Prosser and Keeton on Torts. In the 1950s he also became Reporter for the Second Restatement of Torts.
