Sir William Patrick Deane (born 1931) is an Australian barrister and jurist who served as a Justice of the High Court of Australia from 1982 to 1995, during which he was among the judges who decided in favor of Eddie Mabo in the landmark native title case. He later served as the 22nd Governor-General of Australia from 1996 to 2001, a term during which he officially opened the 2000 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Sydney.
