William de Raley

William de Raley (died 1250) was a medieval English judge, administrator and clergyman. He rose through the courts to become Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas from 1233 to 1234 and then Chief Justice of the King's Bench from 1234 to 1239, the senior judge in England after the office of Justiciar lapsed. As a royal councillor he helped shape the Statute of Merton of 1236. He later left the bench for the church, serving as Bishop of Norwich from 1239 to 1242 and then Bishop of Winchester from 1242 until his death, and he died at Tours in France shortly before 1 September 1250.
