Warren Grant Magnuson lived from 1905 to 1989 and was an American lawyer and politician who represented the state of Washington in Congress for 44 years, first in the House of Representatives from 1937 to 1944 and then in the Senate from 1944 to 1981. A member of the Democratic Party, he was Washington states longest serving senator, serving as the chambers most senior member and as president pro tempore during his final two years in office, and was the longest serving member of Congress ever to end his career by being defeated for reelection.
