Gaius Trebatius Testa was a Roman jurist born around 84 BC whose family came from Velia. About two decades younger than Cicero, he became a close associate and student of the orator, who dedicated his work the Topica to him and recommended him to Julius Caesar as a skilled legal counselor, calling him a thorough gentleman and a leading light in civil law. Trebatius served alongside Caesar in Gaul and supported him during the civil war, later built a close relationship with Augustus, and was regarded, according to the Institutes of Justinian, as the leading legal authority of the Augustan age.
