Bror Arvid Sture Petren, who lived from October 3, 1908, in Stockholm, to December 13, 1976, in Geneva, was a Swedish ambassador and civil servant who earned his law degree from Lund University in 1930. He became a foreign affairs counselor and head of the legal department at Sweden's Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1950, was appointed ambassador in 1957, and served as president of the Svea Court of Appeal from 1963 to 1967. He was a member of the European Commission of Human Rights from 1954 and served as Sweden's judge at the European Court of Human Rights from 1971 to 1976, alongside his service as a judge of the International Court of Justice, and he was elected to the Swedish Academy in 1969.
