Sanji Mmasenono Monageng

Sanji Mmasenono Monageng, born 9 August 1950 in Botswana and educated at the University of Botswana, is an international lawyer and jurist who became a judge in Botswana in 1989 and later sat as a judge on the High Courts of the Gambia and Swaziland. She was elected a Commissioner of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights in 2003 and served as its chairperson from 2007. She was a judge of the International Criminal Court from 2009 to 2018, serving on the Pre-Trial Chamber from 2009 to 2012 before moving to the Appeals Division, was First Vice-President of the Court from 11 March 2012 to 10 March 2015, and became President of the Appeals Division in 2014.
