S. Rajendra Babu (born 1939) was the thirty-fourth Chief Justice of India, serving for less than a month, from May to June 2004, retiring upon reaching the mandatory age of 65. Born in Bangalore, he became a permanent judge of the Karnataka High Court in 1988 and joined the Supreme Court of India in 1997, where he wrote judgments spanning civil, criminal, constitutional, environmental and tax law. After retiring he chaired India's National Human Rights Commission from 2007 to 2009.
