Robin Brunskill Cooke, Baron Cooke of Thorndon, served as President of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand from 1986 to 1996. Following his retirement from the New Zealand bench he received a British life peerage and sat as a Law Lord on the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council until 2001, the only New Zealand judge to sit in the House of Lords in the past century, hearing roughly one hundred appellate cases. He also served as a non-permanent judge of Hong Kong's Court of Final Appeal from 1997 until his death in 2006.
