Robert John Hayfron-Benjamin

Robert John Hayfron-Benjamin was a Ghanaian jurist who lived from 1929 to 2000. Born in the Gold Coast, now Ghana, and a grandson of the Ghanaian historical figure John Mensah Sarbah, he studied law at the University of London and Middle Temple and was called to the bar in 1955. He served as Principal State Attorney of Ghana from 1963, as a High Court judge from 1964 to 1976, and as an Appeal Court judge from 1976 to 1977 and again from 1981 to 1997, and in between served as Chief Justice of Botswana from 1977 to 1981. He also chaired the Law Reform Commission of Ghana and, in 1991, served as Deputy Speaker of the Consultative Assembly that helped draft the 1992 constitution of Ghana.
