Robert M. Cover was an American law professor, scholar and activist who taught at Yale Law School from 1972 until his death in 1986 at age 42. His scholarship examined the relationship of violence to the law and the centrality of narrative to legal structures, including his concept of jurisgenerativity and his study of court decisions on slavery. His interests beyond law ranged across the philosophy of law, Hebrew texts and political affairs.
