Ramesh Chandra Lahoti

Ramesh Chandra Lahoti (1940 to 2022) was the thirty-fifth Chief Justice of India, serving from June 2004 to November 2005. He joined the bar in Guna district in 1960, served briefly as a district and sessions judge before returning to private practice, and became an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 1988, transferring to the Delhi High Court in 1994, where he investigated the 1996 Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision. He joined the Supreme Court of India in 1998, and as Chief Justice he upheld a Haryana population control law and struck down legislation concerning illegal migrants to Assam.
