Ralph de Hengham

Sir Ralph de Hengham (1235 to 18 May 1311) was a medieval English judge and cleric who served as Chief Justice of the King's Bench from 1274 to 1290 and later as Chief Justice of the Common Pleas from 1301 to 1309. He was dismissed from the King's Bench in 1290 after a misconduct finding tied to a single case and paid 10,000 marks for his pardon, but regained royal favor by the late 1290s and returned to judicial office. He held several cathedral canonries and church livings alongside his legal career, and he wrote legal works for students, including Hengham parva and the unfinished Hengham magna. He was buried in the quire of Old St Paul's Cathedral in London.
