Rabia Bhuiyan, born March 1, 1944, is a Bangladeshi barrister and politician who became the first female barrister in Bangladesh. She served as a member of parliament on a women's reserved seat and as minister of social welfare and women's affairs in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and in 1998 became the first woman to serve as speaker during a one-day parliamentary session. She founded the Bhuiyan Academy law school in Dhaka and, in 1999, filed a landmark environmental case that established government responsibility for ensuring access to safe drinking water.
