Philip Quincy Wright lived from 1890 to 1970 and was an American political scientist at the University of Chicago known for pioneering work in international law, international relations and security studies. He directed the Causes of War project, which produced the influential 1942 multi volume study A Study of War, and later served as Professor of International Law in the Woodrow Wilson Department of Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia from 1956 to 1961. He was president of the American Association of University Professors from 1944 to 1946, the American Political Science Association from 1948 to 1949, the International Political Science Association from 1950 to 1952 and the American Society of International Law from 1955 to 1956.
