Pierre Legrand is a French legal scholar known for his critique of claims that European legal systems are converging, most notably in his 1996 article European Legal Systems Are Not Converging, which argued that comparatists who focus only on rules and institutions neglect the deeper legal cultures and mentalites that distinguish national systems. He has held professorships including Professor of Comparative Legal Culture at Tilburg University and visiting posts at the Sorbonne and Pantheon-Assas law faculties in Paris.
