Piero Calamandrei (1889 to 1956) was an Italian legal scholar considered one of Italy leading authorities on civil procedure. Born in Florence, he taught at several Italian universities, helped found the journal Rivista di diritto processuale in 1924, and took part in revising Italy civil procedure code in 1942. An opponent of fascism who signed Benedetto Croce 1925 manifesto against it, he later served in the postwar Constituent Assembly and Chamber of Deputies.
