Philip Allott is Professor Emeritus of International Public Law at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Trinity College since 1973, having joined the Cambridge Law Faculty in 1976. Before entering academia he served as a legal adviser in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1960 to 1973, including postings as legal adviser to the British Military Government in Berlin and as the first legal counsellor to the United Kingdom Permanent Representation to the European Communities in Brussels. His major works, Eunomia in 1990 and The Health of Nations in 2002, set out a philosophical reconceiving of the international system as the society of all human societies.
