Philip Aloysius Hart lived from December 10, 1912 to December 26, 1976 and was an American lawyer and politician. A Democrat, he served as a United States senator from Michigan from 1959 until his death from cancer in 1976, and was known as the Conscience of the Senate. The Hart Senate Office Building is named in his honor.
