Peter Paczolay is a Hungarian jurist and political scientist born on 20 May 1956 in Budapest. He held academic posts at Eotvos Lorand University and the University of Szeged, served as Secretary General of Hungary's Constitutional Court in 1996 and Deputy Head of the Office of the President of the Republic in 2000, and then sat as a judge on the Constitutional Court of Hungary from 2006 to 2015, serving as its Vice-President from 2007 to 2008 and its President from 2008 to 2015. He was elected Hungary's judge at the European Court of Human Rights in 2017 and continues to serve there.
