Peter Haberle (1934 to 2025) was a German legal scholar specializing in constitutional theory, whose work has been translated into eighteen languages. His doctoral thesis on the essential content guarantee of Article 19 of the German Basic Law proved influential, and he taught at the universities of Marburg, Augsburg and Bayreuth, developing an approach to constitutional interpretation in the tradition of Rudolf Smend that shaped scholarship across Europe and Latin America.
