Paulus de Castro, also known as Paulus Castrensis, was an Italian legal scholar who died in 1441, though the date is traditionally given as 1436. He studied under Baldus de Ubaldis and taught civil and canon law at prestigious universities across Italy and France, including Siena, Avignon, Padua, Florence, Bologna and Perugia, over a career spanning roughly forty five to fifty seven years. One of his pupils described him as the most famous monarch of both laws, and his most important contribution was a comprehensive reading on the Digest that influenced legal scholarship; his works were published posthumously and widely distributed throughout Europe.
