Nicholas Addison Phillips, Baron Phillips of Worth Matravers (born 21 January 1938) is a retired British senior judge who served as Master of the Rolls from 2000 to 2005, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales from 2005 to 2008, and the last Senior Lord of Appeal in Ordinary before becoming, in October 2009, the first President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, a post he held until September 2012. He was the first Lord Chief Justice to serve as head of the English judiciary after that function passed from the Lord Chancellor in 2006, later sat as a Non Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong from 2012 to 2024 and as Chancellor of Bournemouth University from 2009 to 2018, and was made a Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter in 2011. He sits in the House of Lords as a crossbencher.
