Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, born in 1957 in Andhra Pradesh, served as the forty eighth Chief Justice of India from April 2021 to August 2022. He worked as a journalist for the newspaper Eenadu before enrolling as an advocate in 1983, later serving as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, and a Supreme Court judge from 2014. As Chief Justice he oversaw judicial appointments that brought court vacancies to their lowest level since 2016, placed India's sedition law on hold, and set up an investigation into allegations involving Pegasus spyware.
