United States Representative for Ohio 4th congressional district from 1981 to 2007, a former FBI agent who chaired the House Financial Services Committee from 2001. In 2002, following the Enron and WorldCom accounting scandals, he was the House sponsor of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, cosponsored in the Senate by Maryland Senator Paul Sarbanes, which overhauled corporate financial reporting and auditor oversight in the United States.
